ASL Taranto received the prestigious “Digital Innovation Award in Oncology” during the eighth edition of the national Cracking Cancer event. This recognition celebrates the success of a home care model supported by Abintrax’s digital solutions.
The future of oncology is not written solely in laboratories, but also through the ability to bring care outside hospital walls. On April 15 in Bari, ASL Taranto took center stage by receiving the “Digital Innovation Award in Oncology” for the development of innovative care pathways dedicated to patients in the region.
The award was accepted by a high-profile delegation comprising Dr. Salvatore Pisconti (Coordinator of the Ionian-Adriatic Oncology Department), Dr. Cosima Farilla (Regional Telemedicine Coordinator), and Dr. Francesca Russo (Head of the Oncology and Telemedicine Clinic at Moscati).
Abintrax technology at the heart of the project
The award recognizes the ASL’s ability to integrate artificial intelligence and new technologies into daily clinical practice. In this innovation initiative, the telemedicine solution provided by Abintrax played a key role, offering the digital infrastructure necessary to connect doctors and patients in real time.
Through Abintrax’s technological platform, Moscati Hospital has succeeded in transforming the management of chronic cancer care, allowing patients to receive monitoring and care directly in their own homes, reducing exhausting travel and improving quality of life.
"The home as the primary place of care"
Special Commissioner Vito Gregorio Colacicco emphasized that this achievement is the result of a clear vision:
“Thanks to technology, telemedicine allows us to monitor and treat patients even in their own homes, which must become the primary place of care. Congratulations to the team for successfully implementing a solution that meets patients’ needs.”
Renato Perrini, vice president of the Regional Council, also expressed his praise, highlighting how the integration of medical excellence and digital innovation represents an act of profound humanity toward the most vulnerable.
A challenge won for the healthcare of the future
The 2026 edition of Cracking Cancer focused on the challenge of cancer becoming a chronic condition. Thanks to the effectiveness of treatments, people are living longer with the disease, making a reorganization of services essential.
The award presented to ASL Taranto demonstrates that, thanks to the technological support of partners such as Abintrax, it is possible to meet this challenge with tools that ensure sustainability, clinical precision, and, above all, patient-centered care.
